Where materials inspire the architect and designer
Materialbiblioteket (The Library of materials in English) brings your materials, for example plastics, fibres, fabrics, composites or various metals in close contact with the Scandindavian community of industrial designers and engineers. As a client of Materialbiblioteket your material, or your manufacturing method, will be exhibited in a showroom in central Stockholm, capital of Sweden. Together with an editorial presentation written by Materialbiblioteket, your material will be available to be touched, examined and experinced by professional Scandinavian industrial designers. The architect, designer or the engineer will also get the information about how to contact you.
Small target group – big decisions
A vast majority of the Scandinavian industrial designers work on a freelance basis. Their own companies may be small but they work for clients such as SonyEricsson, Volvo, Scania, Hyundai, Honda, IKEA, Artek, NASA, ESA, Whirlpool to name a few.
Industrial designers and architects are constantly searching for new materials and processing methods. Materialbiblioteket is a helpful tool for industrial designers looking for various solutions regarding choice of materials for their ongoing projects. The designer has a major influence on the choice of materials and in many cases the the final decision.
Make it easier for industrial designers to find your materials
Scandinavian industrial designers are now more often than ever travelling abroad in order to find new materials. Three major Swedish design companies have recently put up their businesses in Hongkong and it is also common to have employed personel in for instance, Asia especially for the purpose of finding new materials and new business partners.
Materialbiblioteket provides both Scandinavian designers and engineers and you with a more efficient way of getting in contact with each other. Our services are available to be your window towards the community of Scandinavian industrial designers and engineers.
Workshops and seminars
Materialbiblioteket also produces workshops and seminars where specially invited industrial designers get the opportunity to learn about a specific material. These workshops are usually set up for companies about to launch a new material on the Scandinavian market. The workshops and seminars are regarded as a very direct and powerful marketing tool.
Who we are
Materialbiblioteket is a direct result of a two year research project at Konstfack, National college of art, craft and design. This is also the area where Materialbiblioteket is located. As a result of the research a unique method for communicating technically complex materials and manufacturing methods has been developed. This method is now beeing used by Materialbiblioteket.
Materialbiblioteket is located at The Stockholm Design Centre, a dynamic region close to the city centre and Stockholm international fairs. The area is re-designed by Wingårdhs Architects.
